The workshop addressed the transformative impact of artificial intelligence in the fields of energy and economics within an interdisciplinary framework, focusing on security risks, regulatory frameworks, opportunities, and implementation challenges. In addition to the economic implications of AI applications in energy systems, discussions also covered cybersecurity, data governance, and ethical dimensions.
In the opening session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Bağış, Head of the Department of Economics at FSMVU, outlined the scope and objectives of the workshop, emphasizing the significance of AI debates at the intersection of energy and economics. Prof. Dr. Yaşar Sarı, Director of our Center, shared his assessments on AI applications in the energy sector. Prof. Dr. Fatma Gülruh Gürbüz, Dean of FSMVU, highlighted the aims and academic importance of the workshop. Vice Rectors Saadetdin Herdem (FSMVU) and Özcan Erkan Akgün (Ibn Haldun University) underscored the governance and security dimensions of AI applications, as well as the importance of regulatory frameworks in this field.
During the invited speaker sessions, current research findings and practical applications were presented. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezer Bozkuş Kahyaoğlu (İzmir Bakırçay University) focused on institutional readiness, organizational capacity, and governance needs in AI transition processes. Prof. Dr. Ali Polat (Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University) evaluated data-driven forecasting and price estimation approaches within the context of the Turkish electricity market. Dr. Cumali Türkmenoğlu (FSMVU) discussed the relationship between AI applications in energy and cybersecurity/critical infrastructure risks, addressing issues of risk management and resilience. Dr. Alp Cenk Arslan (Police Academy) provided a comparative assessment of the role of AI in the green energy transition from Turkish and European perspectives.
The workshop concluded with the presentation of gifts to the speakers.
