Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration wrote about his visit and meeting with the Political Advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Mehdi Sanai, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abbas Araghchi on the social network. The topics of meetings covered friendly relations between both countries, cooperation via organizations, regional and transregional projects.

ECO Deputy Foreign Ministers convene in Tehran.

The First High-Level Committee (HLC) Meeting of the ECO Deputy Foreign Ministers took place with the participation of delegates from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan at the ECO Secretariat in Tehran. In the meeting, topics such as crucial organizational reforms, including financial and budgetary matters, enhancing the efficiency of the Secretariat and refining recruitment policies were discussed.

Azerbaijan's border guards record movements of EU observers on border with Lachin and Zangilan.

While The European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) continues its observations on the border with Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani border guards monitored and recorded the movements of members through the border. The mandate of the European Union's 200-person observation mission on the border of Armenia with Azerbaijan has been extended for another two years - until February 19, 2027.

World Bank Regional Director: Higher economic growth forecast for Azerbaijan is possible.

The World Bank’s Regional Director for the South Caucasus, Rolande Pryce mentioned that “Azerbaijan is currently making significant investments, and our economic growth forecast is approximately 3.2%” in her interview. While the World Bank presented its annual global report, the 2024 World Development Report (WDR), in Baku, it is one of the issues the Bank aims to promote through its Middle-Income Trap report.

President Ilham Aliyev highlights reasons why Azerbaijan is not yet a member of World Trade Organization.

President Ilham Aliyev spoke about the reasons for not accepting Azerbaijan as a member to the World Trade Organization in his interview. While he named the reasons as protectionism, double standards, and tariffs, he also highlighted that these reasons disrupt the core values of the World Trade Organization.

Azerbaijan files statement of claim with Permanent Court of Arbitration against Armenia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan made statement related to statement of Claim by Azerbaijan with the Permanent Court of Arbitration (in The Hague) in its arbitration case against Armenia under the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats of 1979 (‘the Bern Convention on 12 February 2025. Ministry mentioned that Azerbaijan’s legal action against Armenia is the first known inter-state arbitration case under the Bern Convention.

The heads of government of the Caspian littoral states met in the 3rd Caspian Economic Forum in the Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. While Azerbaijan's Prime Minister Ali Asadov described the Caspian Economic Forum as a vital platform for discussing current issues of economic and trade collaboration between the Caspian littoral states, he emphasized the importance and opportunities that were created as a result of Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation between the Governments of the Caspian States, the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, he gave information about Azerbaijan's role in realizing the "East-West" and "North-South" international transport corridors, COP29 to the forum’s participants.

The 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Baku, Azerbaijan with the participation of the 35 parliamentary delegations with nearly 280 participants under theme of "The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation in Asia". The agenda covers topics as granting full membership to the Sultanate of Oman and observer status to Belarus, adopting a budget for the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

Georgian Dream’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili touched on some issues in her interview as relations with the European Union, the current situation and future possibilities. While she emphasized the government’s focus on “prioritizing national interests,” particularly those vital for the country’s European integration, she criticized Brussel for making policies on the basis of “misconceptions”. The Minister emphasized that without stability, the government can not offer good standard of living to the citizens, and in terms of the European Union, she mentioned national interest as to be in the European Union, but it must be through dialogue.

EU prepares to allocate new tranche from European Peace Facility to Armenia to boost defense capabilities – EXCLUSIVE

As the European Union sent military assistance which valued 10 million euros via "European Peace Facility" in 2024, according to the latest news this type of assistance will continue to increase the defense capacity of Armenia. In the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it was mentioned that this type of action leads to increasing tension and the creation of dividing line in the regions, while the country has territorial claim against Azerbaijan.

At UN, Georgia backs US resolution calling for a swift end to the Russia-Ukraine war.

On February 22, the US draft resolution with three points with the one co-sponsor Georgia proposed in the UN General Assembly. While the draft resolution does not contain any information about who starts the war, or other demands, it just focused on the ending of the war.

Western Azerbaijan Community responds to Armenian Government.

The Western Azerbaijan Community made a statement on the speech by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the High-Level Segment of the 56th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on February 24, 2025, about a group of war criminals currently on trial in Azerbaijan. The community stated that making this type of statement on the anniversary of the Khojaly genocide is a disrespectful action while genocide was committed by Armenia in 1992. At the same time, they demanded the establishment of peaceful conditions for the return of Azerbaijanis who were expelled from Armenia to their homes in Armenia.

Meeting of CICA Senior Officials Committee held in Baku.

Meeting of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Senior Officials Committee (SOC), followed by Special Working Group session in Baku. Azerbaijan chaired CICA which is the only pan-Asian platform for interaction, under the motto of “Stronger CICA: connectivity, digitalization and sustainable growth in Asia” for the period of 2024-2026. In the meeting SOC, priorities and initiatives for the period of 2025-2026 and Annual Think Tank forum which is the initiative of Azerbaijan were presented.
