The Haydar Aliyev Center for Eurasian Studies (HACE) and the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Ibn Haldun University are organizing an online panel to examine the evolving trajectory of U.S.–China relations through the lens of the “Thucydides’ Trap” debate.

The panel will explore the dynamics of strategic rivalry between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, assessing patterns of great-power competition, mutual distrust, and their broader implications for the global order. The discussion will address prospects for conflict and cooperation in U.S.–China relations within the frameworks of geopolitical rivalry, economic interdependence, and leadership narratives.

The event will take the form of a critical exchange between Yaşar Sarı and Steve On.
