The project “Teaching International Law: A Turkic Perspective” is being implemented with the support of a grant from the Turkic Academy – an international organization established under the auspices of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), dedicated to fostering scientific and educational cooperation among Turkic countries and communities.

The primary objective of the project is to enrich the field of international law by introducing a unique perspective rooted in the historical, cultural, and geopolitical realities of the Turkic states. While traditional Western approaches have long dominated academic discourse, the increasing prominence of alternative schools – such as Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), post-socialist and Eastern European perspectives, Chinese approaches, Islamic legal traditions, and Latin American and African frameworks – highlights the need for more diverse and context-sensitive interpretations.

This project aims to address a critical gap by advocating for the integration of the Turkic worldview into the teaching and study of international law.

The project presentation will take place in Tashkent on April 22 at the scientific and practical conference “Modern Issues of International Law,” organized by the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

As part of the project’s implementation, a series of thematic seminars and webinars will be held with the participation of leading international law experts from OTS member states. Additionally, a dedicated session will be organized during the summer school “The Rise of the Turkic World” at Ibn Haldun University in Türkiye, now in its second year with the support of the Organization of Turkic States.

The project will culminate in the publication of a comprehensive monograph, which will consolidate the findings from the research and expert discussions and present innovative approaches to teaching international law from a Turkic perspective.
